The Lebanese government has resigned after a deadly explosion in the capital, with Prime Minister Hassan Diab set to stand down in a speech on Monday evening.
The blast triggered anti-government protests as many blamed “corrupt” politicians for allowing 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate to remain unsecured in a warehouse for six years.
Already struggling with a dire economic situation, there are concerns the country could now become a failed state if its political system is not reformed.
