Six years ago, CEO Joe Thomas–who left a career in branding and design to launch video messaging tool Loom–could not have known just how important a role video would play in the workplace in the advent of a global pandemic. Loom’s interactive video messaging offers tone and expressions not found in emails and direct messages, and can be augmented with closed captions and other tools. In 2021, the company’s user base is growing at a rate of 900% year-over-year, and includes customers like Netflix, Atlassian, and Twitter. Loom raised a $130 million a16z-led Series C in May, more than quadrupling its valuation to $1.53 billion.
